With each program, the Windows mixer panel supplied the undistorted audio I needed for my transmitter, always with the mixer panel settings always between 20 and 30 percent. I have used the same FT-897D the same computer the same West Mountain Radio Plug-and-Play sound card interface (excellent interface!) for years, with MIXW, MMSSTV, WinWarbler and other digital comm programs. I found it odd that only FLDIGI did not work in my system. I had to turn up the windows mixer transmitter volume to full blast, 100 per cent, to get anything into the transmitter rear port and that still wasn't enough drive. The designer of FLDIGI was clearly thinking of the end user (an idea I hope will catch on in digital comm, and in numerous other programs)ĭid not work. I'm involved in E-comm, plus MARS, plus military so not much time for automated contesting. You can remove the things you don't want, in my case, the contesting and logging apps. A lot of customizable features to explore that I have not yet explored. Good graphics, good layout, changeable fonts, macro buttons, and colors. Professional appearance (no photos of someones ham shack while the program boots up and no random junk on the screen that resembles 1980's DOS graphics). I don't know if this will help others with problems running the software, but it helped me.įLDIGI is a great piece of digital software for anyone who wants to try digital modes, and it gives you many modes to pick from. I found that sometimes swapping the interface between USB ports helped, but then found that if I booted the laptop with the interface disconnected then connected after boot up is complete, it will run all day long without losing contact with the rig. When using RIGCAT, the software would hang and lose contact with the rig. My laptop doesn't have a serial port, so I use a Belkin USB to Serial converter. I did have one problem with the rig control thought, but I think it may have been hardware related. I'm running it on a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro into a Signallink SL-1+ interface with a Kenwood TS-140S with a Piexx card for CAT control. It can run just about any digital mode you can name, a few you've probably never heard of. I started running FLDIGI a couple of years ago and it's great! The interface is very clean and very professionally laid out. This is something I don’t understand about the Windows “document” abstraction.Great Digital Mode software for many modes Another possible fix would be to restore to default – I think the menu system has this control, probably to fix “killer macros”.Īnother thing is that the folder fldgig.files does not appear under “My Documents” although it is physically in the user profile (directory structure). Naturally be careful as you can easily mess it up, but if you have the “killer macro” syndrome, this may be one fix. The macros.mdf file can be edited directly with notepad. If you modify a macro, be advised of the FILE>MACRO>SAVE menu sequence… it may be necessary to do this a couple of times. This is a bug at least in my version, that only shows up if you somehow inadvertently mess up a macro edit. If the mfg configuration is corrupt, like a macro # is missing (this happened to me), fldigi will close as soon as you hit the macro button ( killer macro). I use textpad but notepad will work fine. >Operator : go ahead and populate all : These populate macros Īlthough this must have worked before to save macros, what definitely works is to directly edit … fldigi.files/macros/macros.mdf with a text editor. > Rig > Hamlib - check “Use Hamlib”, Rig “Yaesu FT-857 (beta)”, Device Com5, rearmost USB port, Baudrate 4800 (important), Stopbits 1, Sideband rig mode, PTT via Hamlib command is checked and grayed out, flow controls are unchecked. Vaio Version: 3.21.72 (2012) ( I have an old vaio notebook so this is a note to me…) Fldigi may also be available on Linux where HRD and DM780 are not. This latter may be important for using the 60M band since on the FT-857, digital modes don’t work – perhaps were not implemented by Yaesu, or maybe plain cannot be made to work … anyone know?Īs of July 2014 I prefer DM780 for digital work, but fldigi has widespread use in the Ham community for emergency operations, and supports all kinds of automation for email relay, message packaging, message security and integrity, is free and enjoys a lot of support. Still I have gotten it to work in basic digital modes, gotten usable macros, successfully setup CAT based rig-control, as well as setup FLDIGI with VOX keying for psk without a CAT cable ( a skill that I’ve momentarily lost through dis-use – note that it’s possible). This article is a collection of my notes – don’t expect anything but a few setup clues as I haven’t really studied fldigi thoroughly yet.
